Relay Team Selection for Regionals & Provincials - Important Notice

There is much excitement and anticipation but it's also a time when our coaches make some difficult and strategic choices so the club can qualify as many relay teams as possible for the Provincial Championships. Once qualified for Provincials, the goal of the coaches is to compose the fastest relay teams that have the best chance to medal. The team with the potential to medal will be given priority over a team that only has the potential to become a finalist.

Relay teams qualify by placing 1st or 2nd in their events in the Regional Final or by achieving a Provincial Qualifying Time( PQT) at the Regional Final. It is the team that qualifies and not the individual swimmers. This means the best interests of the team the takespriority over the interests of theindividual swimmers on the relay team. The composition of each relay team that qualifies fromthe Regional Championship can bechanged betweenthe Regional and Provincial Championship.

Every swimmer is given a fair opportunity to earn their spot. Coaches make their selections based on the swimmers available to participate at the Championship meets, the best times of those swimmers including the times achieved at regionals, and the relative strength of the regionaland provincial fields. Generally speaking the four fastest swimmers within adivision are selectedto form the relay team; however, there are times where the"best" team available is one made up in part by swimmersbrought up from lower divisions.

Head Coaches have the final authority over the relay decision making process.

Please see one of thehead coaches or a member of the executive if you have comments or questions about this Championship Relay selection policy.
